Pages
Pages are essential for sharing important information with your customers that doesn't change frequently. Whether it's your company story, legal policies, shipping information, or FAQ, pages provide a permanent home for content your customers need to find and trust.
This guide will show you how to create and manage pages in Soppiya, regardless of your technical background.
Location: Content → Pages
What Are Pages?
Pages are static content areas on your website that provide essential information to customers. Unlike blog articles (which are time-sensitive) or products (which are for sale), pages contain foundational information that rarely changes.
Common page types:
- Company Information - About Us, Our Story, Team, Locations
- Legal & Policies - Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, Refund Policy, Shipping Policy
- Customer Support - FAQ, Contact Us, Help Center, Size Guides
- Marketing - Custom landing pages, Brand story, Mission & Values
Key differences from other content:
| Feature | Pages | Blog Articles | Products |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Static information | Time-sensitive content | Items for sale |
| Updates | Rarely | Frequently | As needed |
| Examples | Privacy Policy, About Us | News, Tips, Guides | Clothing, Electronics |
| SEO Focus | Brand keywords | Topic keywords | Product keywords |
Start with the essential pages every online store needs: About Us, Contact, Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, and Shipping & Returns. These build trust and meet legal requirements.

Available formatting:
- Headings (H2, H3, H4 for organization)
- Bold, italic, underline
- Bullet and numbered lists
- Links to other pages or websites
- Images and videos
- Blockquotes
- Tables (for structured data)
Content writing tips:

- Keep paragraphs short (2-4 sentences) for readability
- Include relevant images to make content more engaging
- For legal pages, consider getting templates from a lawyer

Status
Controls whether the page is visible to customers.
| Status | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Active | Published and visible to everyone on your website |
| Draft | Saved but hidden from the public; only visible to staff |
When to use Draft:
- While writing content before publishing
- For pages awaiting legal review (policies, terms)
- For seasonal pages you'll activate later
- When making major updates to an important page
You can switch between Draft and Active at any time. Draft pages won't appear in menus or search results.
Featured Image
What it is: An optional header image for the page.
Where it appears:
- Top of the page (depending on your theme)
- Social media previews when the page is shared
- Some themes show it in page listings
How to set:
- Click Add media to upload or select an image
- Click Remove to delete the current image
Technical requirements:
- Supported formats: PNG, JPG, SVG, WEBP, HEIC
- Size: No minimum or maximum limits. You can upload any resolution
- File size: Keep under 500KB for fast loading
Best practices:
- Use relevant imagery (team photo for About Us, shipping box for Shipping page)
- Ensure images are high quality but optimized
- Include alt text for accessibility (describe the image)
- For policy pages, images are usually optional
Theme Template
What it is: Controls the layout and design of your page.
Default option: Most stores use the standard Page template.
When to use custom templates:
- Contact page with a built-in form
- Landing page with special layout
- Full-width page without sidebar
- Custom designed page from your developer
Changing the template updates only the visual layout, not your content. If unsure, keep the default template.
Available templates depend on your theme. Common options:
- Page (default) - Standard layout with optional sidebar
- Page - Contact - Includes contact form
- Page - Full Width - No sidebar, content spans full width
- Page - Landing - Custom layout for marketing campaigns

Meta Title
- The headline shown in search engine results
- Character limit: 60 characters recommended (up to 70 may display)
- Best practice: Include main keyword and brand name
- Example: "About Our Company | Eco-Friendly Clothing Brand"
If left blank: Uses your page title by default.
Examples by page type:
| Page Type | Good Meta Title | Why It Works |
|---|---|---|
| About Us | "About [Brand] - Sustainable Fashion Since 2020" | Brand + differentiator + credibility |
| FAQ | "Frequently Asked Questions - [Brand] Help Center" | Clear purpose + brand |
| Shipping | "Shipping & Returns Policy - Free Shipping Over $50" | Key benefit included |
Meta Description
- A short summary shown below the title in search results
- Character limit: 160 characters recommended (up to 320 may display)
- Best practice: Summarize the page value and include a call-to-action
If left blank: Search engines will auto-generate from your page content (usually not ideal).
Examples:
About Us:
"Discover our story: family-owned sustainable clothing brand committed to ethical fashion. Learn about our mission, values, and the artisans who make our products."
Privacy Policy:
"Read our privacy policy to understand how we collect, use, and protect your personal information. Your privacy is important to us."
Shipping:
"Get free shipping on orders over $50. Learn about our delivery times, international shipping, and hassle-free returns policy."
Good meta descriptions can significantly increase click-through rates from search results, even if they don't directly affect rankings.
URL Handle
- The page's web address
- Automatically generated from the title, but you can edit it
- Format:
yourdomain.com/pages/your-handle
Best practices:
- Keep it short and descriptive (2-4 words)
- Use hyphens between words (not underscores or spaces)
- Use lowercase letters only
- Avoid special characters
Examples:
| Page Title | Good URL Handle | Bad URL Handle |
|---|---|---|
| About Us | about-us | about_us_page |
| Privacy Policy | privacy-policy | privacy (too vague) |
| Shipping & Returns | shipping-returns | shipping-and-returns-policy (too long) |
Once published and indexed by search engines, avoid changing the URL handle. Doing so breaks existing links. If you must change it, set up a 301 redirect.
Tags
- Keywords that help organize and categorize your pages
- Used for internal search and filtering
- Not directly visible to customers
Examples:
- About Us page:
company, brand, story, mission - Privacy Policy:
legal, privacy, data, policy - FAQ:
help, support, questions, customer-service
Best practices:
- Use 3-5 relevant tags per page
- Be consistent across similar pages
- Use lowercase for consistency
- Separate tags with commas
Meta Fields
If metafields are defined for pages in your store:
- They will appear in the Meta fields section
- Use them to store additional structured data
- Common examples: Author name, review status, related products
Metafields extend page functionality without theme modifications. Define custom fields in store settings, then reference them in templates using Liquid syntax.
Editing a Page
To update an existing page:
- Go to Content → Pages
- Click the page title you want to edit
- Make your changes in any section
- Click to apply
What you can edit:
- Title and content
- Featured image
- Template
- Status (switch between Draft and Active)
- SEO settings (meta title, description, URL handle)
- Tags and metafields
For important pages (like Privacy Policy or Terms), consider saving as Draft while making major updates, then switching back to Active when complete. This prevents customers from seeing half-finished changes.
Deleting a Page
To permanently remove a page:
- Open the page you want to delete
- Scroll to the bottom of the page
- Click
- Confirm the action
- Deleting a page is permanent and cannot be undone
- Any menu links to this page will break
- External links (from Google, other websites) will show 404 errors
- Consider setting the page to Draft instead if you might need it later
Before deleting, check:
- Is the page linked in your navigation menus? (Remove those links first)
- Does the page have traffic from search engines? (Check Google Analytics)
- Are there external links pointing to it? (Consider redirects instead)

Troubleshooting
Common issues and how to fix them:
My page isn't showing on my website
Possible causes:
- The page status is set to Draft
- The page isn't linked in your navigation menu
- Your theme has specific requirements for page display
Solution:
- Check that the page status is Active
- Go to Content → Menus and add the page to your footer or main menu
- Clear your browser cache and refresh
- Check your theme documentation for any special requirements
The page URL shows a 404 error
Possible causes:
- You recently changed the URL handle
- The page was deleted
- There's a typo in the URL
Solution:
- Go to Content → Pages and verify the page exists
- Check the URL handle matches what you're trying to access
- If you changed the URL handle, set up a 301 redirect from the old URL
- Contact your developer if you need help with redirects
My page content looks different than I formatted it
Possible causes:
- The theme template is overriding your formatting
- You're using a different template than intended
- Custom CSS from your theme is affecting the page
Solution:
- Check which template is selected (try switching to the default Page template)
- Preview the page on different devices (desktop, tablet, mobile)
- Clear formatting and reapply it (some copied text brings unwanted styles)
- Contact your theme developer if the issue persists
Images on my page aren't loading or look blurry
Possible causes:
- Images are too large (slow to load)
- Images are too small (appear blurry when scaled up)
- Image format not supported
Solution:
- Use images at least 1200px wide for full-width images
- Compress images before uploading (use tools like TinyPNG)
- Supported formats: PNG, JPG, SVG, WEBP, HEIC
- Check file size - keep under 500KB per image
My page isn't ranking in Google search results
Possible causes:
- The page is too new (not yet indexed)
- SEO settings aren't optimized
- The page has no external links pointing to it
- Robots.txt is blocking search engines
Solution:
- Wait 2-4 weeks for new pages to be indexed
- Fill out meta title and description with relevant keywords
- Link to the page from other pages on your site
- Submit your sitemap to Google Search Console
- Check Settings → SEO to ensure search engines can crawl your site
Important pages like About Us and Contact should be linked in your footer menu to help search engines discover them.
I can't find the page I just created
Possible causes:
- The page is saved as Draft
- You're on the wrong page in the admin
- Filters are hiding it
Solution:
- Go to Content → Pages
- Clear all filters (click "Clear filters")
- Search for the page title in the search box
- Check if the status filter is set to show Drafts
If you're still experiencing issues, contact Soppiya support with the page title and a description of the problem.

- Optimize SEO settings (meta title, description, URL) for better search visibility
- Link pages in your footer menu so customers and search engines can find them
- Keep content simple, clear, and mobile-friendly
